You Sow What You Reap

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38)

Everyone’s heard the saying, “treat others the way you want to be treated” ever since we were little children.  Yet, we find ourselves faced with frustration when people react in a negative manner or respond so rudely that it leaves us speechless or biting our tongue so we don’t respond the same way.  Sometimes, that frustration gets the better of us and we may react the same way despite our attempts to remain respectful, and then the cycle continues until someone humbly steps down.  Be that person to step down; be the bigger person; be the person God made you to be.

By treating others with respect, we will gain their respect.  When we treat others the way we wish to be treated, they will treat us with respect in return.  When we treat our spouse with love and respect, our children see that and they will grow up to treat their spouse with love and respect.  When our children see how we treat our ailing parents with love, kindness, and tenderness, even when our parents may be unaware and not in control of their actions, our children will look to us with respect.  They will remember how we interacted with our parents when they are faced with caring for theirs.

The same goes true when we don’t treat each other with respect.  Those children, who were mistreated, may grow up mistreating others.  If you are one of those children, don’t look at that as your excuse when you fail.  Break the chain and be the bigger person.  Set the example you would have wanted set for you!  Change comes from within and only we can change, and by changing ourselves we will be changing so much more through the chain of respect and giving to others!  By doing so, we will be rewarded.  We will reap an abundance of favor from God.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give us. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” (Galatians 6: 9-10)
