Respect Yourself First

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psalm 139: 13-14)

This subject can get pretty deep, but the best place to start is to start deep within ourselves.  If we don’t respect ourselves, how can we respect others?  We need to be at peace with ourselves so that our light can shine brightly to others.  We are God’s creation and every one of us are beautiful in His eyes and have special talents that we should be proud of.  If we are struggling with loving ourselves the way we are, or respecting ourselves for whom we are, then we need to start asking God to help us change our ways.  Change comes from within.  Take time to reflect on who you are and what you want to be.

Remember the Serenity prayer and ask God to grant you the serenity to accept the things you cannot change: Courage to change the things you can: and the wisdom to know the difference.

When you can respect yourself, you will feel confident, walk prouder, and be at peace with everything you do.  This in turn will shine out unto others that you interact with.  It is important to remember though, that your integrity and honorable ways are just as important as your confidence and pride; don’t deceive yourselves.  The Bible teaches in 1 Corinthians 3: 16-17, we are a temple of God and the Spirit of God dwells within us.  If we destroy the temple of God, God will destroy him.  The temple of God is holy, and that is what we are. Therefore, look within and ask for His assistance; be still and listen for His quiet voice, and follow His lead.  Remain true to yourself, and treat others as you wish to be treated!

“For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, for each one should carry his own load.” (Galatians 6:3-5)
